The dryer vent cleaning process typically includes the following steps:

Preparation –

• Safety First: Before starting, the dryer is unplugged, and if it's a gas dryer, the gas supply is turned off.
• Inspection: The vent system is inspected for visible blockages, damage, or areas that might need special attention.

Disconnecting the Dryer 

• The dryer is pulled away from the wall to access the vent hose or duct.
• The vent hose is carefully disconnected from both the dryer and the wall vent

Cleaning the Vent Hose/Duct

• Manual Cleaning: A specialized brush or flexible cleaning tool is used to manually remove lint and debris from the vent hose or duct. The brush is inserted into the vent and moved back and forth to dislodge and remove the buildup.
• Vacuuming: A powerful vacuum is often used to suck out the loosened lint and debris. This ensures that all the particles are removed and prevents them from getting pushed further into the duct system.

Cleaning the Wall Vent 

• The same process is applied to the vent opening in the wall. The brush and vacuum are used to clean out the duct leading to the exterior of the home.
• If the vent duct is long, additional tools or extensions might be used to ensure a thorough cleaning.

Exterior Vent Cleaning 

• The exterior vent cover is inspected and cleaned. If it has a screen or flap, it's cleared of any obstructions to allow proper airflow.
• The area around the vent is also checked to ensure that it’s free from debris, which could block the exhaust.

Reconnecting and Testing

• Once the cleaning is complete, the vent hose is reconnected to the dryer and the wall.
• The dryer is pushed back into place, and all connections are securely fastened.
• The dryer is then plugged in (and the gas supply is turned back on if applicable), and the system is tested to ensure it's operating correctly and that airflow through the vent is unrestricted.

Final Inspection

• A final inspection is conducted to ensure that the dryer vent is clean, all connections are secure, and there are no signs of damage or obstruction.
• Homeowners are often advised on how to maintain their dryer vents and when to schedule the next cleaning.

Optional: Airflow Measurement

• In some cases, a professional might use an airflow meter to measure the efficiency of the vent after cleaning. This ensures that the vent is functioning optimally.
